Red Letter Challenge
Week of Forgiving
We all deal with guilt. One of the significant misconceptions people have about following Jesus is that Christians must live all of life feeling nothing but guilt. Too many buy into that lie and then seek relief from their guilt through what the world and our culture promise in return. But they never provide true relief. That begs the question: where do we find relief? True relief is ultimately found in forgiveness. Jesus gives us the perfect prayer in Matthew 6, specifically in verse 12, providing the pattern for relief from guilt. Forgiveness is first received, then it is offered, and finally, it is secured.
Matthew 6:9-15
9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

What would the Body of Jesus Christ – the Christian Church – look like if every believer would take Jesus’ words, the ones that are written in red letters in Bibles, and actually put them into practice? That’s a very unoriginal idea or question that could change not just the followers of Jesus Christ but also the world in which we live. Highlighting five areas of following Jesus, we will move together in discovering what it means to be, forgive, serve, give, and go as a church called Faith, Oakville.
