The Armor of God

Mar 23, 2025 | Pastor Matt Peeples

Walking in Peace

We have shoes for everything—running, lifting, CrossFit, work, casual outings, even the beach. Each pair serves a purpose. But when Paul talks about the armor of God, he mentions a different kind of shoe—one designed for the readiness of the gospel of peace. What does that mean for us? How are we called to use our spiritual shoes? Join us this Sunday as we dive into this powerful truth together!

Ephesians 6:15

15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

Colossians 1:18-20

18 And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.

For Families with Kids

1. Read Ephesians 6:10-20. Our focus this week is v15, shoes to go out into the world with the Gospel of peace.

2. What is your favorite pair of shoes? Why? How often do you wear them? Do you like other people to notice them?

3. What is the great mission Jesus gave all of us (hint: read Matthew 28:18-20)? Does the thought of doing this excite you or scare you? Why?

4. What is the Gospel that gives us peace? Who is one person you can tell about Jesus this week? As a family, pray for each person you think of this week. Thank God for His mercy and love; ask for His joy and strength to share the Good News; ask the Holy Spirit to give you the right words and timing to share and for the other person to be receptive to hearing about Jesus!

Series Information

On Sundays in the season of Lent, our message will focus on the whole armor of God, where Apostle Paul paints a powerful picture of the Christian life as a spiritual battle, calling believers to stand firm against the forces of evil by putting on the full armor of God. It reminds us that, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are engaged in a daily struggle, not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual powers of darkness. Each piece of armor - the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, wrapped in protective prayer - equips believers to resist the enemy's schemes and remain steadfast in their faith. Understanding and applying this spiritual armor is crucial for living a victorious Christian life in a world filled with deception, temptation, and opposition.
