The Armor of God

Mar 30, 2025 | Pastor John Brunette

Shield of Faith

Today, Pastor John continues our series on the Armor of God by looking at the fourth piece of armor mentioned in Ephesians 6. It allows us to take a closer, in-depth view of the concept of “faith” mentioned throughout scripture. Why does Paul compare faith to a shield? What are the flaming arrows of the evil one? Are certain people more prone to Satan’s attacks? And finally, what are some practical things we can do to strengthen our faith so that it really is a shield of protection when we go through difficult and dangerous times in our lives?

Ephesians 6:13-16

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;

Series Information

On Sundays in the season of Lent, our message will focus on the whole armor of God, where Apostle Paul paints a powerful picture of the Christian life as a spiritual battle, calling believers to stand firm against the forces of evil by putting on the full armor of God. It reminds us that, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are engaged in a daily struggle, not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual powers of darkness. Each piece of armor - the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, wrapped in protective prayer - equips believers to resist the enemy's schemes and remain steadfast in their faith. Understanding and applying this spiritual armor is crucial for living a victorious Christian life in a world filled with deception, temptation, and opposition.
