The Character of God

Feb 22, 2026 | Pastor Brandon Boos

Remembering the Unchanging God

This week, we are kicking off a new series on the character of God, focusing on His consistency and what that means for how we can trust Him. From generation to generation, God has remained faithful to His promises, and His unchanging nature gives us confidence in uncertain times. Join us this Sunday as we explore who God is and discover how His consistency shapes the way we live, trust, and follow Him.

Exodus 34:5-7

5 The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

For Adult Homes and Groups

1. What is a promise someone made to you that meant a lot? Did they keep their promise?

2. In what ways do we tend to forget what God has already done?

3. What does it mean that God remembers His covenant forever?

4. Who in your life needs to hear about the covenant-keeping God?

For Families with Kids

1. Read Exodus 34:5-7 together.

2. When we meet someone new, we might tell them our name and some things we like. Why do you think God wanted to tell Moses exactly what His heart is like?

3. God calls Himself “slow to anger.” How have you seen God be patient with you when you made a mistake this week?

4. Verse 7 says God shows love to “a thousand generations.” What does that tell us about how long God’s love lasts?

5. God says He keeps His love for “a thousand generations.” Talk as a family about how your grandparents or great-grandparents might have seen God’s faithfulness in their lives.

Series Information

We all carry questions about who God really is - especially when life feels unpredictable or painful. In Exodus 34:6–7, God reveals the core of His character in words that echo throughout the entire Bible. The Character of God series invites us to slow down and listen to what God says about Himself. During Lent, we will unpack these defining traits of God one by one, discovering a God who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and overflowing with faithful love.
