Red Letter Challenge Intro

How much time do we spend following the latest social media influencers and trying their advice? How often do we set aside time to sit at the feet of our favorite pundit to hear how we should react to the latest economic or political policies? There is One who teaches with actual authority, whose words do not diminish like today's influencers but only grow in prominence. That teacher is Jesus. He teaches from an intimate knowledge and deep love of the creation into which He speaks. He wants to see us live in a way that will truly bring us life. What would it look like if we focused the same time, attention, and energy on Jesus' words as we do on cultural opinions? Join us as we learn to live out Jesus's words in the Red Letter Challenge.

Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

For Adults, Groups, and Families with Kids

1. Reread Matthew 7:24-29; what promise do you hear Jesus making to you when you focus on not just hearing His word but living it out?

2. Take an audit of your week. How much time do you spend in the Bible, prayer, and worship compared to how much time you spend on social media and other streaming entertainment?

3. What would it look like for you to take a next step toward spending more time with Jesus every day? Consider using the resources at faithoakville.org/redletterchallenge.

4. Pray through Psalm 1, and meditate on God’s promise for those who spend time in God’s word.

Series Information

What would the Body of Jesus Christ – the Christian Church – look like if every believer would take Jesus’ words, the ones that are written in red letters in Bibles, and actually put them into practice? That’s a very unoriginal idea or question that could change not just the followers of Jesus Christ but also the world in which we live. Highlighting five areas of following Jesus, we will move together in discovering what it means to be, forgive, serve, give, and go as a church called Faith, Oakville.
