Our Motivation for Love

How does the love Jesus pours into us flow into the lives of those around us? In this part of Romans, Paul challenges us to let the depth of God's love in our lives overflow to others. But how do we do that, and what challenges come with it? Join us as we dive deep into this concept and wrestle with how we live this out in the places we live, work, learn, and play.

Romans 12:9-13

9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

For Adult Homes & Groups

1. Read John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13, and Romans 12:9-16. Discuss how the Bible defines love.

2. How does the Bible’s description of love differ from the description of love we see in the world around us?

3. How can you tangibly show the kind of love Paul describes in Romans 12 to those around you in church?

4. How can you tangibly show the kind of love Paul describes in Romans 12 to those in the places you live, work, learn, and play?

For Families with Kids

1. Read Romans 12 together.

2. What does verse 9 want our love to be?

Fill in the blank: _ _ _ _ _ _ _

3. In vv10-13, Paul gives us a list of practical ways to detest (abhor) evil and cling to what is good when it comes to being with our Christian friends. Write those specific words in a personal way. For example: “I am to love one another with brotherly affection.” Choose one to focus on as a family this week.

4. Pray the Lord’s Prayer together each day this week, and keep an eye out for someone in your family who is living out a specific action Paul mentions in vv10-13. Point it out to them and encourage them.
