The Greenhouse

Feb 01, 2026 | Pastor Matt Peeples

Ordinary People Sharing an Extraordinary Message

Many of us want our lives to matter, but feel unsure how our faith is meant to shape our everyday world. When we open up the Bible, we realize the church was never meant to be a destination, but a greenhouse that equips and sends us into the places we already live, work, learn, and play. In this series, we’ll walk alongside you to rediscover Jesus’ simple call to make disciples “as you are going,” helping you see how God uses ordinary people to deliver an extraordinary message that brings transformation. If that sounds overwhelming, join us this Sunday as we discover just how simple it can be.

For Adult Homes and Groups

This week, take time to reread these Scriptures slowly and prayerfully:

Matthew 28:16–20; John 20:19–23; Isaiah 6:8; Jeremiah 1:4–10; 1 Peter 2:9–10. As you read, ask the Spirit to help you see what God might be inviting you into right now.

1. As you read these verses, what stands out to you about how God sends ordinary people into His mission? Where do you see yourself in these stories?

2. What everyday place or relationship in your life might God already be using for disciple-making (home, work, school, neighborhood, gym, etc.)? What might it look like to be more attentive and available there?

3. Many of these verses include both a calling and a promise of God’s presence. What fears or hesitations do you feel when you think about being sent? How do these Scriptures reshape the way you see God’s role in the mission?

For Families with Kids

1. Read Matthew 28:16-20 together.

2. What do you think it means to be a follower of Jesus instead of being a “fan” of Him?

3. If Jesus were sitting right next to you in person, what would you want to ask Him?

4. If someone were to watch what you do on an ordinary day, what would they immediately notice about you?

5. What is the difference between a student (someone who learns) and a disciple (someone who follows and imitates)?

6. Why is it comforting that we are commanded to make disciples as we “go” about our daily lives, rather than needing to be pastors or missionaries?

Matthew 28:16–20
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw Him they worshiped Him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to . 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

John 20:19–23
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

Isaiah 6:8
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Jeremiah 1:4–10

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” But the Lord said to me,

“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you, you shall go,
and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
declares the Lord.”

Then the Lord put out His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,

“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
10 See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
