Ordinary People Sharing an Extraordinary Message
For Adult Homes and Groups
This week, take time to reread these Scriptures slowly and prayerfully: Matthew 28:16–20; John 20:19–23; Isaiah 6:8; Jeremiah 1:4–10; 1 Peter 2:9–10. As you read, ask the Spirit to help you see what God might be inviting you into right now.
1. As you read these verses, what stands out to you about how God sends ordinary people into His mission? Where do you see yourself in these stories?
2. What everyday place or relationship in your life might God already be using for disciple-making (home, work, school, neighborhood, gym, etc.)? What might it look like to be more attentive and available there?
3. Many of these verses include both a calling and a promise of God’s presence. What fears or hesitations do you feel when you think about being sent? How do these Scriptures reshape the way you see God’s role in the mission?
For Families with Kids
1. Read Matthew 28:16-20 together.
2. What do you think it means to be a follower of Jesus instead of being a “fan” of Him?
3. If Jesus were sitting right next to you in person, what would you want to ask Him?
4. If someone were to watch what you do on an ordinary day, what would they immediately notice about you?
5. What is the difference between a student (someone who learns) and a disciple (someone who follows and imitates)?
6. Why is it comforting that we are commanded to make disciples as we “go” about our daily lives, rather than needing to be pastors or missionaries?
