The Gospels - Matthew Mark

Jan 16, 2022 | Pastor Chris Sommer

It Still Rains on the Rock

Today we are kicking off a 31-week journey of reading through and discussing the New Testament. We are glad you are with us because we have spent a lot of time preparing for this first week specifically. Much planning and time have already been invested because we understand the importance of establishing a good foundation. "You need a firm foundation if you plan to build anything of significance.” Those are wise words from a wise man who shared them with me… and now I would like to share some of His wisdom with you… so let’s talk about it.

DISCIPLESHIP CONVERSATIONS

What will you build your house on? Matthew 7:24-27

For Adult Homes or Groups
1. Read Matthew 7:24-27 with someone or everyone in your home.
2. Have someone retell the passage in their own words.
3. What does it say about people or myself? Is there any sin that we might be led to confess?
4. What does this passage say about Jesus or the Gospel?
5. This passage tells us that putting Jesus’ words into practice is what makes us wise disciples. What is God’s Word prompting you to put into practice this week, and how will you do it?
6. Pray together.

For Families with Kids
1. Read Matthew 7:24-27 with your kids.
2. Check for understanding by asking questions. “There are two houses in this story. One is built on a rock. What is the other built on? Storms come to both houses. When the storm comes to the house on the rock, what happens? What happens to the house on the sand?”
3. Say, “Jesus says that we are like the house on the rock when we believe what He says. What is something important that you know about Jesus?”
4. Bonus Activity: Work together with your kids to build houses out of your favorite snacks! Some good materials might be graham crackers, pretzels, or marshmallows.
