Paul's letters
Christ is Better!
The author of Hebrews does not ask what you think about Christianity. He tells you about Jesus, God’s Son, superior to the prophets of old, superior to the angels.
Hebrews 1:1-4
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.
For Adult Homes or Groups
Read Hebrews 1
1. Share a time in your life Jesus become more than just a name to you?
2. Discuss with one another how God has spoken to you since you came into a relationship with Him through Jesus? (Was it through the Bible, God’s people, pastor’s messages, radio Bible teachers?)
3. To what (or whom) is Jesus compared in this chapter? In what ways was Jesus’ function similar to that of the Old Testament prophets? In what ways was He superior?
4. Christ is better – better than the angels and the prophets. He is the “radiance of God’s glory and the exact “imprint” of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. Why is it important to believe that Jesus is “God... the Son”?
5. Jesus has provided purification for your sins (v. 3). How are you living differently in light of this truth? Is there someone who you need to share this truth with?
6. Take time to share requests and pray for one another.
For Families with Kids
1. Have everyone share how they would describe Jesus to someone who has never heard of Him. What is Jesus like?
2. Read Hebrews 1:1-4 with your family.
3. What does Hebrews 1:1-4 tell us about who Jesus is?
4. Bonus activity: Play a game of Telephone! In this game, our original message can get muddled and confused. But God’s Word is clear! Hebrews 1:2 reminds us that God made His plan of salvation clear through Christ’s teachings and by His death and resurrection for us.
